Mix-O-Well 2000-litre vertical screw mixer

Key features

Homogeneous in 10–15 minutes

One vertical screw circulates the whole batch, treating every kilogram in the vessel the same way.

Mixes at the machine

Runs online with an extruder or moulding machine and takes the place of the reservoir. Accepts material while it is mixing.

Interlocked cleaning window

A proximity switch stops the motor from starting while the cleaning window is open.

SS-304 where it touches the polymer

Hopper, barrel and screw in SS-304; everything outside the material path is mild steel.

Less handling, less power

Removes three of the six handling steps of hand mixing, with lower power consumption per kg of raw material than manual mixing.

Mobile or fixed

The 200 L runs on castors and goes to whichever machine is running the job. The 2000 L stands on its own legged frame with a built-in ladder.

Mix-O-Well® sizes compared

The 300, 800, 1200 and 2000 are one machine in four sizes. The 200 is a different arrangement — smaller, squatter and made to be wheeled to whichever machine is running the job.

Mix-O-Well sizes to scale: 2000, 1200, 800, 300 and 200 litres
Scaled by capacity; not a measured drawing. Overall dimensions are confirmed in our written offer.

How it works

  1. Up the middle: the screw draws material up the central barrel from the bottom of the hopper.
  2. Out at the top: it is thrown out and forms a vortex.
  3. Down the outside: it falls back around the barrel under gravity and is drawn up again.
  4. 10–15 minutes of that circulation and the batch is homogeneous.

How it works: full explanation

A screw and barrel are mounted vertically through the centre of the hopper. The screw draws material up from the bottom and throws it out at the top, where it forms a vortex; the dispersed material falls back down the outside of the barrel under gravity and is drawn up again.

10–15 minutes of that circulation and the batch is homogeneous. A single screw, turning clockwise seen from above, does the same thing to every kilogram in the vessel, with no tumbling drum, ribbon or paddle.

Why uniform mixing matters

Polymer, masterbatch and regrind that are dosed separately have to be brought to a uniform mix before they reach the screw of the moulding machine or extruder. If they are not, plasticisation is uneven, and that shows up in the finished part as colour variation and inconsistent properties.

Mixing is the lowest-cost point in the process to get uniformity right, and hand mixing is where it most often goes wrong.

Inline mixing at the machine

Hand mixing is 6 separate acts of handling: move the material to a mixing area, unpack and tip it into a tub, mix it, repack it, move it to the line, and tip it into the reservoir. Each one is a chance to spill material, to get the ratio wrong, or to let something foreign into the batch.

Put the mixer where the machine is and 3 of those 6 disappear. It runs online with an extruder or moulding machine through the outlet port, and it takes the place of the reservoir, with no extra station in the works.

It also accepts material while it is mixing, so filling and blending are not two jobs done one after the other.

Safety interlock

A proximity switch watches the cleaning window. While the window is open the motor will not start.

Cleaning a mixer means putting a hand where the screw is. The interlock makes the machine incapable of running while the window is open, so the operator has no step to remember, no switch to turn off first, and no habit can defeat it.
